Différentes villes suédoises ont installées des pompes d'assainissements qui transforment les déchets en méthane, ce qui permettrait de faire rouler plusieurs milliers de voitures et d'autobus.
D'après Ola Fredriksson, de la station d'épuration de Goteborg, la production de méthane d'une seule personne permettrait de rouler 120 kilomètres par an.
La transformation des déchets consiste en un processus où les bactéries se nourrissent des matières fécales de l'être humain pendant une durée d'environ 3 semaines dans un réservoir totalement privé d'oxygène. Le résultat obtenu est à 2/3 du méthane, pour 1/3 de dioxyde de carbone.
Aucune odeur nauséabonde ne serait émise, le tout pour un prix inférieur à celui de l'essence ou du gazole.
Si on fait le calcul... dans un foyer avec 2 parents et 2 enfants, on pourrait presque s'offrir un voyage aller vers nos belles plages du Sud, quelle belle idée éco pour cet été 
et déguster les bonnes spécialités à base de féculents comme le cassoulet...
